Outlook Festival 2011 [Event]

It's not long now til I fly to Outlook Festival! So I thought it'd be worthwhile making a post about it! I'm sure many people who will read this will know what Outlook is all about and some of you are probably going! Outlook is a festival dedicated to UK and international bass music set on the beautiful back drop of the Adriatic sea (the ocean between Italy and Croatia). The festival is based in an old 19th century fort, Fort Punta Christo which was originally used by the Austrian navy as a port. Now it is fairly uninhabitable besides the odd festival which it plays home too.

The decapitated fort is the perfect location for Outlook Festival and I was blown away by its eerie and creepy it has during the day but at night, the place comes alive with sound systems and a considerable amount of low frequency pleasure. My first time at Outlook was last year when they first moved to Fort Punta Christo and I had an excellent time, so much so that I decided to go again! Flying in to Venice, I'll be making me way through Slovenia and then into Croatia a few days before the festival starts! Will be camping up by the ocean and the brilliant camp site which is located 10 minutes away from the Fort, 5 minutes from the docks to enjoy a boat party or two and what will be home to the excellent daily beach parties!

If you're into bass music whether it be dubstep, drum and bass, reggae, dub or house/funky. This place is for you, it has one seemingly simple objective and that is provide good vibes and it definitely succeeded last year.

The line up this year is the best yet, here's a list of some of the people I'll be checking out:

Addison Groove, Ben UFO, Barrington Levy, Biome, Boddika, Bok Bok, Bunzero, Channel One Soundsystem, Chef, Coki, Commix, Consequence, Cyrus, dBridge, David Rodigan, Dawn Penn, Distance, Doc Daneeka, Earl Gateshead, El B, Falty DL, Firehouse Soundsystem, Gentlemans Dub Club, Goth-Trad, George FitzGerald, Girl Unit, Hudson Mohawke, Icicle, Ikonika, Instra:mental, Iration Steppas, Jack Sparrow, Jakes, Jay 5ive, Kode9, Koreless, Kromestar, L-Vis 1990, Loefah, DJ Madd, Mala, Martyn, Matt-U, Mizz Beats, Moxie, N-Type, Oneman, Pangaea, Phaeleh, Pinch, Plastician, Quest, Ramadanman/Pearson Sound, Razor Rekta, RSD, Scuba, Shackleton, Silkie, Slugabed, SP:MC, Submotion Orchestra, Terror Danjah, The Bug, Truth, Tunnidge, T_!, Untold, Vivek, Versa, Zed Bias.

Get in touch if your going and we can go for a drink or 2! I can't wait.

Mala for XLR8R [Mix]

Mala, the godfather of the low frequency in UK bass music has released a new mix for XLR8R which shows talents from the DMZ and Deep Medi camps but also some tunes from up and coming producers and unfamiliar names.

01 Mala - Digital Mystikz "Livin' Different VIP" (DMZ)
02 V.I.V.E.K "Feel It" (Deep Medi)
03 Goth-Trad "Seeker"
04 Coki - Digital Mystikz "Ironshirt"
05 Mala "Enter Dimensions"
06 Kryptic Minds + Youngsta "Arcane"
07 Dark Tantrums "Unborn"
08 V.I.V.E.K "Big Bang" (Deep Medi)
09 Mavado "Dem A Talk (TMSV Refix)"
10 Coki "Revolution"
11 Jack Sparrow "Afraid of Me"
12 Mensah "Gambia"
13 The Dub Mechanics "The Clash"
14 Mala "Bad Spirits on Shoulders"
15 Digital Mystikz "Dun Stinky"
16 Commodo "Saracen" (Deep Medi)
17 Coki "Duppy Sour Sap"
18 Johnny Osbourne "Fally Rankin (V.I.V.E.K. Dub Version)" (Greensleeves)
19 Mala "Education" (DMZ)
20 Old Apparatus "Untitled Intro" (Deep Medi)

This mix feels like it's Mala's way of putting the dub back into dubstep and I don't think it is going to end there. XLR8R have announced he is starting a new mix series entitled 'Sound*System*Musik' which I am really excited about. Not only am I excited about this but this mix has me hyped beyond belief about Outlook Festival 2011. Last year was awesome so I am getting even more excited.

Boat party tickets go on sale in 40 minutes and I hope I get the ones I want. :) Will probably do an Outlook related post tomorrow at some point. Anyway's, enjoy the sounds of Mala, master selector!

DJ Madd - Blank Space EP [Black Box]

Black Box is set to release a new EP by Hungarian producer, DJ Madd. Black Box has consistently been one of my favourite labels since it's first release with two other labels in the Black Box family, Box Clever and Black Boxxx. They are bringing bass heavy dubstep to the masses.

Release will be soon, so keep your eyes pealed to online record stores!

Good times.

Hey, I ain't posted in over a week so sorry about that. But shit is going good, finally. Haha.

Got myself some Technics 1210 which are great. I have a pair of Shure Whitelabel styli and carts on which sound great too! Will have to take a picture of my set up sometime and post it up. :)

I've finished my last exam which feels like a relief as I've had a really tough couple of months! Been quite ill and with exams and assignments coming left, right and centre. It's been pretty shit!

I have an MRI scan today too which will hopefully find out what is wrong with me! Interesting!

Anyways, I'm in a fairly good mood so think I'll enjoy it while it lasts. :)

Peace and love. xox

Weekend Nachos - Worthless [Relapse/Deep Six]

First non-dubstep music related post. Weekend Nachos are releasing their third LP soon, set to drop on Relapse (cd/digital) and Deep Six (vinyl). I know I'll definitely be copping the vinyl release, Deep Six is a great label!

I've had a listen and this is the usual heavy hitting affair that I've come to expect from Weekend Nachos. Fast hardcore punk with unbelievably heavy sludge moments. Big up! Also shout to The Afternoon Gentlemen who are from Leeds and will be doing a US tour with them. Nice going.

You can stream the record HERE!

Silkie - City Limits Vol. 2 [Deep Medi]

Vivek - Eyes Down [Deep Medi]

It's almost here! Vivek's next EP which is being released on my favourite label, Deep Medi. Mala's imprint serves as the shining light leading all other labels through dark times of 'brostep' and Dubstep commercialisation and with releases being popped out monthly (were expecting Eyes Down and Pinch - Swish this May!), it only furthers Mala's standing as the godfather of Dubstep.

Tracklist:

V.I.V.E.K - The Big Bang
V.I.V.E.K - Spread Love
V.I.V.E.K - Sirens
V.I.V.E.K - Eyes Down
